Self-justification in a bookshop

You are not supposed to conquer
The "to read" pile.
This is shifting sands
Not the promised land.
And if you were to summit,
Would you not then need
Summat to read?
Without a book it has got
To be boring at the top.
So I'll take your recommendations, please!
